Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the teachings and practices of Yoga.
— International Association of Yoga Therapists

Yoga Therapy addresses a whole range of health problems such as lower back pain, high blood pressure, breathing problems, stress and anxiety etc. It is not necessary to have any previous experience of yoga. Yoga therapy uses gentle postures, gentle breathwork, relaxation techniques, restorative yoga and meditation to help address the issues and to promote natural healing. It can safely be practiced at home and empowers you to look after your own health.

In Yoga therapy specific practices and tools of yoga are applied to address physical and mental health conditions to alleviate the illness and to promote overall well-being.

Yoga therapy brings together the health needs of the client with yoga practice and also medical science. For example, with lower back pain, there are very specific yoga positions and postures for strengthening and supporting the abdominal and back muscles. Breathing techniques are also used to relax the body and mind.

What to expect from OmaYoga therapy sessions:

The sessions generally include, postures, breathing techniques, meditation, relaxation techniques.

  • The first session (which is usually free) is dedicated to the discussion of the need of the client.

  • Then, a preliminary plan of daily practice is drawn up which will include postures, breathing techniques and meditation specific to the condition being addressed. To begin with 6-8 sessions are recommended. The daily practice plan is complementary to any other medical intervention that is being used and the practice plan prescribed can be safely done at home. The practice plan is sometimes revised to include new practices as per the requirements of the client.
